Amanda C. Austin

Austin, Amanda C. ‘Tina’, 88, of Absecon, passed peacefully on January 20, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 23, 1933 in Atlantic City. She was the daughter of the late St. Clair and Amanda R. (Haberstroh) Atkinson. She was raised in Pleasantville and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1951. Her first employment was with Prudential Insurance Company. She was a waitress with the former Rugby Inn in Northfield for over 30 years. Tina loved to play basketball and played 4 years at PHS and leagues at the local YWCA. She met her husband, George who also played in a league. They married in 1955 and celebrated 66 years together. They enjoyed many cruises and vacations. She bowled for over 30 years and in 1979 she won the Press 200 Roll Off. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren, playing sports, crocheting, crossword puzzles, shopping, cooking, gardening and fishing. Tina was a member of Chi Delta Sorority for over 60 years and Absecon Island Power Squadron. Tina and George (deceased) raised 3 children in Absecon, Kevin (Patty) Austin, Debi (Pete) Higbee and Craig (Kathie) Austin. They have 5 grandchildren, Katie and Bryan Higbee, Amanda (Rob) McLachlan, Melissa (Sam) Wright and Danielle (Allan) Stover. She is also survived by her 3 great-grandchildren, Colin and Abigail McLachlan and Moxley Stover. Survivors also include her brother, Bob Atkinson; and sisters-in-law, Ginnie Atkinson and Ann Keeler. A private burial will take place for Tina.
