Andrew R. McMahon, age 86, formerly of Montville, NJ, Boonton Township NJ and Smyrna, DE, died peacefully at home in Bonita Springs FL on Saturday, May 21. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Cecelia (Jetko) McMahon, and his children, Andrew Patrick McMahon and Rebecca (Schneider) McMahon of Denville, NJ and William and Denise (Mc Mahon) Meehan of Cudjoe Key, FL. He was predeceased by his son Richard John McMahon in 2003.
Andy was born in Scranton, PA. During the Korean War, Andy was stationed in Trieste, Italy, where he served as a motor pool mechanic. Andy and Cecelia lived in Newark, NJ before moving in 1962 to Montville, NJ and later to Boonton Township, NJ. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, Andy enjoyed motorcycling. During this time he founded the BMW Motorcycle Club of North Jersey, an affiliate of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America, and served as its first President.
After retiring from the New Jersey Division of Lottery, where he served as District Manager, Andy and Cecelia moved to Smyrna, DE. A few years later, they took to the road, spending over a decade living and traveling in their motorcoach. During this time, Andy enjoyed flying model airplanes and maintaining his rolling home in peak condition so he could enjoy exploring the East Coast with his wife. They made many friends and spent several years as Campground staffers at both Lazy Lakes Campground in Sugarloaf Key, FL and Timothy Lake South Campground in East Strousdburg, PA. In 2014, Andy and Cecelia relocated permanently to Bonita Springs, FL.
Andy was mechanically minded and always enjoyed working with his hands. He enjoyed discovering how things worked, especially automobiles, but also was actively interested in learning about home building and remodeling. During the 1970’s he oversaw the remodeling of his Montville home, and played the role of general contractor for the construction of his Boonton Township home in the 1980’s. He also oversaw the design of his home in Bonita Springs in 2014.
Andy will be remembered for his love of life, inquisitive mind, and devotion to friends and family.
