Anthony J. Iaconelli

Anthony James Iaconelli, of Absecon, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 23, 1939 in Atlantic City. He was a graduate of St. Michael’s Grammar School and a 1956 graduate of Holy Spirit High School where he played baseball and basketball. He served in the Army National Guard from 1960 to 1964. He worked in the title insurance industry from 1965 to 2012 and was the owner-operator of Liberty Title Agency. Ike was a life-long sports enthusiast. He enjoyed his Saturdays at the racetrack and was a founding member of the Absecon Social and Athletic Club (ASAC). He coached baseball and basketball for 45 years in Absecon and impacted countless lives. After an illustrious coaching career the City of Absecon honored him by naming the Babe Ruth Field at Jonathon Pitney Park The Anthony Iaconelli Field. He received the Absecon Citizen of the Year Award in 2010.

Ike had a great love for music, ranging from early classic Rock n’ Roll to Sinatra, to Garth Brooks to Josh Groban and these became the soundtracks of his life. Which he was eager to share with his some times captive audiences. He will be admired and remembered for his many personal and professional achievements, but also his family and friends will remember his quick wit and dry sense of humor and the ability to cut to the chase with an irony that would have made Mel Brooks proud.

Above all, Ike enjoyed being with his family. He enjoyed date night with bowling, dining, and dancing with Dottie, his wife and best friend. Ike was a lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins, Boston Celtics, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Mr. and Mrs. Ike could always be found in the stands at the St. Augustine Prep basketball games critiquing the players and the coaches. Pop Pop was a true fan at his granddaughters’ dance recitals and softball games, and his grandsons’ baseball, basketball, football, crew races, and hockey games.

Anthony was pre-deceased by his father, Anthony, his mother, Helen, his brother, Jack, and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Duffy. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Dottie, his sister, Ellen Duffy, his children, Anthony (Maria), Michael (Helen), Steven (Chris), Kevin (Carol), and Matt, his 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Terry Iaconelli.
