Sekeet, August F. “Gus”, 84, of Galloway, passed away October 28, 2020. Born and bred in Paterson, NJ, he also lived in Totowa, Wayne, Franklin, and Bellville, NJ before moving to Galloway 30 years ago. He was a maintenance mechanic for Accurate Box Company before retiring in 1994. It has been said that a man’s true wealth is the good he does in the world. He was a proud Navy Veteran “Tin Can” Sailor, serving as a Pipefitter Third Class on the USS Flechteler (DDR-870) and USS Kenneth D. Bailey (DDR-713) during the Korean War and seeing the world. After the Navy, he spent his life working as a mechanic on trucks, trains, and industrial printing equipment; he was also a truck and “buzz” driver and enjoyed the travel that came with it. He had a passion for music and as a young man he sang in his school and church choirs and was selected to be in the City of Paterson’s children’s choir. He loved opera and the rumble and blare of drum and bugle corps; he played bugle for Our Lady of Lourdes Drum and Bugle Corps. He appreciated a good food festival and he loved to cook too. When you went to Gus’s house for dinner you always knew you would be fed a delicious meal cooked from scratch and you would roll out the door uncomfortably full. His love for good food drove him to take a chance on himself and open the Salad Bowl Deli, which, to this day his patrons still miss. Most important to him though was spending time with family and friends. He wholeheartedly supported his sons in their many varied endeavors and did his best to be at every event all while working hard to support his family. He was at his best though whenever he had one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren cuddled in Pop Pop’s arms. He was indeed a very wealthy man!
Gus is predeceased by his son, Alphonse Sekeet; his parents, Alphonse P. Sekeet and Bertha (DeWilde) Sekeet; sisters, Fredericka (Sekeet) Zazulka and Bertha (Sekeet) Todd; and his brothers, Frederick Sekeet and Henry Sekeet. He is survived by his wife and love of his life for over 64 years, Joanne (Tuckett) Sekeet; his son, Kenneth and wife, Donna, his son, Michael and wife, Sandy, and his daughter-in-law, Lisa. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristen and husband, Brian, Russell and wife, Jennifer, Taylor, Trevor, Ciara, Katelyn, Dale, and Danny and wife, Dhanne, as well as great-grandchildren, Kylie, Vinnie and Dakota. Visitation will be on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Parsels Funeral Home at 324 New Jersey Avenue, Absecon, NJ. A private family service and burial will take place on Wednesday Nov 4, 2020 at 1pm at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor located at 109 Boulevard Route 50, Mays Landing, NJ.
