Charles Wesley Burroughs 88, of Absecon , New Jersey passed away on April 6, 2014. He was born in Pleasantville, NJ on June 30, 1925 to the late William and Hilda Burroughs. Charles graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1943 and later married the late Bernice B. Bakely on February 13, 1948 and they built their forever home in Absecon, NJ.
Charles enlisted into the United States Army, serving as a member of the 1st Army 7th Corp, 804 MP Co as a decorated World War II Veteran. He was a dedicated technician to New Jersey Bell Telephone for 33 years. He loved traveling the world with Bernice to Hawaii, Bermuda, Bahamas and the States. He was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Bell Telephone Retirees, and the Local 827 IBEW Group.
Charles was a devoted father and husband of 66 years. He is predeceased by his wife, Bernice B. Burroughs, on March 18, 2014 from Alzheimer’s disease. Charles is survived by his children, Don Burroughs of Absecon; his daughter Jackie Heinz of Port Republic; his 5 grandchildren Kimberly Heinz, Ernest Heinz, Kristy Heinz, Donna Kurtz, Trisha Burroughs; and his great-granddaughter Katie Kurtz.
A graveside service will be 12PM Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, 109 Blvd. Route 50 in Mays Landing (at Atlantic County Park).
