Dennis Umbro, 63, of Somers Point, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 17 at Shore Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was born December 8, 1949 in East Boston, MA to Margaret Masciulli and Rocco Umbro. He graduated from East Boston High School in 1967 and continued his education at Salem State College. He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Mr. Umbro was employed as a correctional officer at Deer Island Correctional Facility in Winthrop, MA. He married his former wife, Maria Gatti Umbro, and with her, moved to Hackensack, NJ in 1979, where he was owner of Jimmy’s Italian Restaurant. In 1982, he moved to Absecon and began work as a craps dealer at Resorts Casino. He then worked as a dual-rate supervisor at the Taj Mahal Casino from its opening day until March of 2012.
He is survived by his beautiful daughter, Elizabeth; his brothers, Joe of Lithia Springs, GA and Kevin of East Boston, MA; his girlfriend, JoAnn Barrick; his aunts, uncles, cousins and two nieces, Margie Beth and Sheila.
Visitation will be 10AM to 11:30AM, Friday, June 21, 2013 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. Interment will follow at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Atlantic County Park, Mays Landing.
