Edward I. Daidone

Edward I. Daidone, (February 13, 1939-January 10, 2017), Ed or Eddie, as he was known to his close friends and family, was originally born in Italy in a town called Piedimonte Etneo in the province of Catania in Sicily. His given name at birth was Ignazio, the patron saint of his hometown. He moved to the United States with his family when he was a young boy. He legally changed his name to Edward when he became a citizen of the US. The family settled in the Bronx, NY. His mother and father were a seamstress and a shoe-maker, respectively. Raised by hard working Italian immigrants, Ed became a licensed surveyor after obtaining a 2 year college degree and began working at Con Edison in NY for 40 years, until his retirement.

Ed met his wife, Linda Daidone (Baumann) 52 years ago at a nursing school dance. They married and had 3 children…all girls (Lisa, Donna, and Laura). He used to joke that at least they had a male dog! They began their married life in upstate NY and then moved their family to New Hyde Park, NY. Eventually they moved to Sayreville, NJ, after a career relocation for Ed, to Staten Island still with Con Edison. Linda and Ed enjoyed having a time share in Brigantine, NJ where they vacationed many years. The family stayed in Sayreville until Ed’s retirement where upon Linda and Ed moved to Brigantine, NJ, a town they had grown to love, until his death.

Ed loved cars. All shapes and sizes excited him. He owned over 60 cars in his lifetime and his favorite question to ask was what kind of car you drove and how many miles were on the car. He also was a proud American. He loved his country and served in the Army National Guard for 6 years and was very proud to support his country and still proudly flew the American flag outside his home. His Italian heritage was also important to him and loved to tell people he was an Italian American. Ed loved his family and especially his 2 grandsons Alex and Jake.

In addition to his wife Linda, his girls, Lisa, Donna (William Yahara) and Laura and his grandchildren, Alexander and Jacob Yahara, Ed is survived by his sister, Zina Tosto.

A memorial gathering will be 12PM to 2:30PM, Saturday January 14, 2017 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A memorial service, followed by military honors will follow at 2:30PM.
