Ernest Arthur Magee, 90, of Smithville, Galloway Twp., died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at his home. Born in South Nyack, NY, he lived in various Rockland County communities before moving to Smithville 26 years ago. He retired in 1986 as a supervisor from the New York Telephone Company in Nanuet, NY, working there for 35 years. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He earned the rank of Technical Sergeant and was a recipient of the purple heart and received 4 oak clusters. As a young man, he was a member of the boyscout troop in Nyack, NY, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of the masons lodge in Nyack, as well. His hobbies included tinkering with various items around the house, fixing them or making them better, he loved gardening and was a devoted family man. He raised two of his great-grandchildren on his own.
He is predeceased by his wife, Hazel; and his daughter, Teri O’Brien. He is survived by his daughters, Marsha (Tom) Badger of Readington, NJ, Donna and Bill Cofalk of Newburgh, NY and Debra (Bryant) Marks of Orland, ME; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10:30AM to 11:30AM, Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon, NJ. A service will immediately follow at 11:30AM.
