STRENGE, ESTHER AGNES (STADLMEIR) - of Absecon, was born July 5, 1911, in Buffalo, NY to the late Albert and Ida Stadlmeir. As a teenager, she moved with her family to Pleasantville, where she graduated from Pleasantville High School. Esther worked as a school secretary until going into nursing training at Atlantic City Hospital. While caring for WWII wounded at Sheeps Head Bay, NY, she met and married her husband, Carl, and they lived in New Rochelle. Later, when widowed, she lived in White Plains and Scarsdale. She was employed over the years as a pediatric nurse, school nurse, and also did private duty. After retirement, Esther moved to Absecon, nursing at Our Ladies Residence and volunteering at the Red Cross and Hospice. She was a member of the Absecon Methodist Church, the Absecon Garden Club, the Community Center for Seniors and many other organizations. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and crafts. Her love of animals brought her great joy. A world traveler, Esther visited many countries, even venturing behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War. She had a kind and loving spirit, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is predeceased by her brothers, Albert Stadlmeir and Warren Stadlmeir, and an unnamed baby sister. She’s survived by her brother Wesley Stadlmeir (Minerva) of Absecon, nieces Gay Channell (John), Donna Thomas (Earl) and Kay Stadlmeir, grand-nieces and nephews, and many extended family members in Buffalo, NY.
A memorial gathering will be 10:30AM to 11AM, Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A service will follow immediately at 11AM. Burial will be private.
