Geneva (Genevieve) Hazelwood

Hazelwood, Geneva (Genevieve), Estelle (Beggs), age 90, of_Northfield, NJ, passed away May 10, 2023 at Excel Care of Egg Harbor with her daughters by her side. Born in Pinoak, WV, she grew up in Lashmeet, WV and lived in Aberdeen, MD and Oxford, PA before moving to Northfield in 1960 where she resided in the same home for all those years.

She was an Accounts Payable Supervisor and worked in General Ledger for Resorts Hotel/Casino for over 20 yrs. as well as a business class teacher at Mainland H.S., Accounting Clerk for B.F. Mazzeo’s and Stock Clerk for Superfresh. She also worked the polls for many years in Northfield before retiring. She was Salutatorian and President of the National Honor Society of her class at Matoaka High School and graduated after paying her own way at Concord College in WV. She was the former wife of Carl Hazelwood with whom she had 6 children and raised on her own after their divorce.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and good friend to those who knew her. She enjoyed travelling, mostly to visit family, doing ceramics and other crafts, attending/volunteering for MRHS Band events that many of her children participated in, was a member of Tilton Swim Club for a long time, and giving to others when she could. She had a love for animals and had many pets that were very special to her.

Geneva is predeceased by her parents, Forest and Vercie (Gunter) Beggs; her sisters, Opal Vinca and Claudie Cooper; nephew/adopted brother, Ronald Beggs; niece/sister, Deborah Thomas; son-in-laws, Ernest Gregg and Jerry Gutlon; and all of her aunts & uncles. She is survived by her children, David Hazelwood and wife Elizabeth of Rochester, NY, daughter, L. Denise Hazelwood and husband Karl Clouting of Vineland, NJ, daughter, Kimberly Gregg of Dorothy, NJ, son, Kevin Hazelwood of Absecon, NJ, son, Timothy Hazelwood of Northfield, NJ, daughter, Kristie Robinson and husband Stephen of Snellville, GA; and her nephew/brother, Duane Beggs and wife Elaina of Abington, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jonathan Hazelwood, Jeremy Ireland, Anna Hazelwood, Joshua Gutlon, Alicia Gutlon, Brian Hazelwood, Erin Hazelwood, Alexander Clouting, and Thomas Clouting; her great grandchildren, Jamie Ireland, Hayley Ireland and Kallen Gutlon and great-niece Christie Thomas.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Birch Grove Park (snackbar pavilion), 1675 Burton Ave., Northfield, NJ 08225. PLEASE NOTE: seating is limited to picnic tables so bring folding chairs if desired. Burial will take place on June 18, 2023 at 2:30 PM in McComas Crotty Cemetery, Pinoak, WV.
