Hammell, Jr., George E., 54, of Galloway, went to be with the Lord Friday, September 2, 2016. He will be missed by his mother, Merilyn, his two brothers, Steven (Erin) and Benjamin; his nieces, Candace Hammell, Brielle Giaccone and Brooke Giaccone Hammell; and his caregiver Ray Neu. George led a very interesting life. He loved Eagles football and wearing his team jersey. He worked at the original Italian Gourmet in Galloway, making pizza boxes. When he wasn’t working, sometimes he would go there and sit all night talking with the people that were working. He loved attending the air shows at NAFEC and the AC Boardwalk, attending many Atlantic City Bullies hockey games and Sharks football games and Surf baseball games. He also went to New York and attended the Mets vs. Phillies games. He enjoyed attending the circus when it came to Galloway and the Atlantic City Race Course. He loved going bowling at Egg Harbor Lanes with the Neil Baker Family, where he received several trophies for being a team player. He enjoyed hitting golf balls and also collecting them in the Galloway field. He also spent time at Wall Stadium in Belmar, NJ where he enjoyed watching the auto races. His favorite was car #79, Frank Dean. He also loved Sonny Santos but he always thought Sonny drove too fast! He loved riding his go-kart in Galloway Field or his brother, Ben’s yard, Ocean City or Atlantic City Boardwalks, or in McKee City. Another past time was watching WWF wrestling. He used to imitate Triple H, pouring water over his head and spitting it out of his mouth. He was an animal lover, as well. He loved cats and the time he spent at Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. He also enjoyed the walks he took around Patriot Lake with his mom or Ray. He also enjoyed going at least once a week to ‘Trixie’s’ and Dave’s house for ceramics class. He has countless medals from Ethel Kennedy Special Olympics, which he attended every year, while being a student John Hembold Education Center in Corbin City. Many people will remember George for riding his bicycle and collecting aluminum cans, which he did for over 25 years. He would also bring them to Joe’s Recycling and loved watching the can crusher. He loved working on his bike too, when it was in need of repair. George enjoyed being with his family and friends and his neighbors, Steve and Kin, Jack and Mary Bruckler, George and Jimmie Woods and Krissy, Carol and Danny Conover. Krissy Said George was her favorite neighbor. He would call everybody up on his phone, checking up on them and checking in. He especially loved the Christmas cookies Mary made for him each year. He always found time to spend with Preacher Al and his family from The Beacon Free Church. He didn’t complain and had a nice word for everyone. He loved Dairy Queen in Absecon and Aunt Linda’s in Galloway.
Over the years, George’s medical conditions took a stronger hold on him and he was limited with what he could do. He spent his final years in bed, not out of choice but based on his limitations. He especially loved his mom taking care of him and he did his best in taking care of her, too. He will be truly missed.
