Obituary For George W. 'Gerry' McCullough
George William McCullough, III (Gerry), of Absecon NJ, died on July 20, 2022 from diabetes-related complications. Gerry was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes in adolescence, but we always thought his strong will would overcome his challenges. He was born a surprise Mother’s Day gift on May 12, 1963 in Ventnor, NJ and remained a lifelong South Jersey resident. Gerry was a true family man. Whom he loved, he loved generously. He is survived by his siblings, Christine McCullough (Tim), Kenny McCullough, and Caroline Bell (Chris); his sons, Sean, Hayden, and Carter; and stepchildren, Ralph and Fraya. He also leaves behind his nieces, Tricia (Sankar), Rebecca, and Anna and his nephews Zach, Kyle, Sanjay, Patrick, and Kirthi; as well as many friends and extended family. He is predeceased by his parents, Mickey and Patsy; his elder brother, Timothy; and his brother-in-law, Brian. Gerry attended H. Ashton Marsh and Emma C. Attales Schools, Holy Spirit High School, University of Maryland, and Stockton State College (now Stockton University). He retired in 2019 after 29 years of service with Atlantic County Department of Public Works, Traffic Maintenance and Parks Divisions. His favorite role was caring for the Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor. During that time, Gerry was a proud member of Teamsters Local 331. Gerry’s greatest passions were his Catholic faith and music. He was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. He helped many people into the church through the Parish’s RCIA Program to share his love of the Lord, and served others through his membership in the Knights of Columbus. Gerry played multiple instruments and sang throughout high school and college. In more recent years, he played in Saint Elizabeth’s worship band, Suite Inspiration. He coached ASAC Soccer and was a founding coach of the South Jersey Field of Dreams, on the Yankees, naturally. He enjoyed playing pool for many years in the APA, but nowhere so much as at the Black Cat. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Absecon, NJ 08201. Please join the family and friends for visitation from 8:45 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. at the church, to be followed immediately by the Mass. The family requests that Mass cards and donations, in lieu of flowers, be sent in Gerry’s name to Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish or to JDRF, 1480 Highway 9 North, Suite 306 Woodbridge, NJ 07095 or to South Jersey Field of Dreams 1000 Bay Drive West Atlantic City, NJ 08234.
