Glendon H. Harris, 77, of Galloway Twp, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Atlanticare, Mainland Division. Born in Bridgeton, NJ, he has lived in Galloway for the past 36 years. He was a graduate of Drexel University with a BS in Commerce and Engineering and began working with South Jersey Industries in Folsom in a variety of positions. He worked his way through several management levels and eventually became Director and Senior Vice President before retiring. While in this position, he worked with several companies over the years in the interest of consolidating them under ‘SJI’. He was a member of the Jaycees of Atlantic City. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts in Bridgeton. Later he served on the executive board of the Boy Scouts of America, Atlantic Council. He was an avid Penn State fan but his true passion was gardening. He had an extensive organic garden and spent many hours there tending to his plants. He also loved his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents, Chester and Luella (Tozer) Harris; and his sister, Betty Bullock. He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Harris; his daughters, Peggy (John) Bishop and Vicki (Dale) Winterbottom; his sons, Mark (Celeste) Harris and Glendon (Mary) Harris, Jr.; his step-son, Edward (Linda) String; his grandchildren, Michael (Mary) and Meaghan Reichelt, Dale (Jessica) Winterbottom, Jr., Ann and Earl Winterbottom, Michasia and Glendon Harris, III, Cody and Brady Harris; and his great-grandchildren, Layla and Keenan Swoyer.
Memorial service will be 6PM Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Peace Lutheran Church, 328 East Great Creek Road, Galloway, NJ. The family will receive friends from 5:30PM to 6:00PM.
