Speed, Henry S., 91, of Vineland, passed away May 22, 2017, surrounded by his family, at the NJ Veteran’s Memorial Home, in Vineland. Born in Pleasantville, he lived in Absecon for many years before moving to Vineland 10 years ago. He enlisted in the Navy and served for 3 years, during World War II. He was Torpedoman Second Class on the U.S.S. Straub. He worked in Atlantic City as a General Manager of the Townsend Atlantic Cadillac Pontiac car dealership and as a driver for Atlantic Limousine for many years. He was a member of VFW Post #9462 in Absecon, where he served as Quartermaster. He loved golf, poker, football (Packers), horse racing and playing games with the kids.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Nancy Jane Marshall. He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Bob) Paarz, Patti (Bob) Hemberger and Tracy Speed; 7 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was extremely proud of all of his children, grandchildren & the greats. A memorial gathering will be 10AM to 11:30AM Saturday June 3, 2017, at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A service will be conducted at 11:30AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org).
