John I. Civera

John I. Civera, of Absecon, passed away September 4, 2015. He was born January 17, 1925 in Philadelphia to Mike and Mary Civera. John was a well-known, highly respected drummer. He led the band at the famous 500 Club in its heyday, playing for greats like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

He is predeceased by his beloved children, Joy Civera Grant and Johnny Michael Civera. John is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Valerie Van Sant Civera; his daughter, Michele Civera Birtch; two granddaughters, Stephanie Clineman and her husband Michael and their daughters Isabella and Tatiana; and Jesse Grant, her partner Chris Clark and their children, Gabriel and Cecelia; his sisters-in-law, Virginia Wolcott and husband Roger and Cathy Irelan and her husband Bill and their families. John also leaves to mourn his passing a host of relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Holy Redeemer Hospice, Meadowview Nursing Home and Karing with Kindness for the gentle care they gave to John during his last months. He will be forever in our hearts.

Services will be at the United Methodist Church at Absecon, 100 Pitney Rd., Absecon, on Sunday September 27, with visitation beginning at 1:30PM and the memorial service beginning at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to the United Methodist Church at Absecon Memorial Fund, at the above address.
