Obituary For John J. Walsh, Sr.
John J. Walsh, Sr., of Fort Myers, FL and formerly of Galloway Twp., NJ, passed away on November 24, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on March 1, 1948, he grew up in Pleasantville, New Jersey. John was a member of Local #68. John worked as the Lead Plumber at Harrah’s Trump Plaza Hotel Casino. After retiring from the casino, John continued working with Local 68 as an instructor.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, serving from November 1969 to July 1971.
John had a profound passion for golf which he considered his preferred pastime. His wife, Noreen lovingly referred to him as “Yoda”, a nod to his remarkable patience in teaching her the game of golf. He would often request that family members refrain from disturbing him while he watched the prestigious events like the U.S. Open and the Masters Tournament.
His favorite teams were the Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco 49ers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He loved watching college football and Gameday tournaments.
During his time in the retirement community, John formed new friendships due to his witty personality and infectious smile.
He found immense joy in spending time with grandchildren.
He also had a passion for cooking. He made the best homemade pizza and roasted red peppers.
John and Noreen retired to Fort Myers, Florida July of 2020, at Seven Lakes Golf and Tennis community enjoying the warmth of the sunshine. John was not a fan of cold weather.
John is preceded in death by his mother and father, Marina and Vincent Walsh. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Noreen; daughter, Stephanie Giordano (Mike); son, John Walsh Jr. (Lorie); Grandchildren, Julianna, Johnny III, Peter and Elena. John is also survived by his siblings, Vincent Walsh (Carol), Anthony Walsh (Barb) and Mary Hill (Jim). Predeceased by his beloved dogs, Frisco and Dublin.
A memorial gathering will be Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 9:15AM to 10:45AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Ave., in Absecon. Mass will be offered at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, American Cancer Society, cancer.org/donate, or the Living Tribute Tree organization.
