Obituary For John M. Applegate
Applegate, John M., 80, of Galloway, NJ, passed away February 6, 2025.
Born in Northfield, NJ, he grew up in Atlantic City on Massachusetts Ave. He attended Atlantic City High School where he was a varsity swimmer and set several records. He later lived in Virginia Beach and Atlantic City before moving to Galloway many years ago. He was a commercial fisherman for his career and was the manager of Gifford Marine where he managed a large clamming operation for Bill Gifford. Later he worked as the maintenance supervisor for Nor’easter Condominium Association before retiring. He was a veteran, serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War. In his free time, he enjoyed restoring his wooden Chris Craft, traveling, fishing, and hunting.
John was predeceased by his parents Ethel and Andrew Applegate, Jr., his wife Cheryl Smolak Applegate, and his brother Andrew Applegate, III. He is survived by his sister Amelia Applegate Barnicle, his brother Howard Applegate and family, his nephew Andrew Applegate, IV and family, and his nephew Theodore Barnicle and family.
The burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Pleasantville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars (vfw.org). Online condolences, may be placed at www.parselsfh.com.
