Merendino, John T. 77, of Absecon, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016, surrounded by his family. Born in Atlantic City, he grew up and lived in Ducktown for many years. He also lived in Brigantine, moving to Absecon 16 years ago. John attended school at St. Michael’s and was a 1959 graduate of Atlantic City High School. He worked as a dealer with Harrah’s Casino for 28 years, retiring in 2008. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Absecon and was a former member of the old AL-KA Club in Ducktown. He loved horses and taking his children to Morning Glory at the Atlantic City Racetrack.
He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Angelina (Callio) Merendino; his brothers, Nick and Joseph Merendino; his mother-in-law, Mary Kendall; and his former son-in-law, Mark Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandy L. (Brown) Merendino; his children, Marybeth (Joe) Henderson, John T. Merendino Jr. and Angela (Jody) Hersh; his brother and sisters, Frank (Grace) Merendino, Marion (Frank) Sutton and Sara (Lou) Ireland; his grandchildren, Bliss A. Johnson and Tyler, Joey and Brian Hersh; his good friend, Fran Madge; and many more relatives and friends.
A gathering will be 10AM to 12PM Saturday November 12, 2016 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A funeral service will be offered at 12PM at the funeral home. A mausoleum service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association (donatenow.heart.org) or The American Kidney Foundation (kidneyfund.org).
