Townsend, Sr., John W., 87, of Absecon, passed away, peacefully, with his family by his side, on December 4, 2022. He was born in Absecon on July 23, 1935 to Edmund Madden and Rebecca C. (Conover) Townsend and was a lifelong resident. He was a veteran of the US Army. John was involved for many years with auto sales. He, his father and brother’s owned Atlantic Cadillac and Pontiac in Atlantic City. Later he owned Towne Motor Sales in Absecon for many years. He retired in 2020. In his free time, he enjoyed being able to travel with his wife, Ellene. He also enjoyed being outdoors and loved gardening, boating and fishing and motorcycling, including being a member of the Harley Owners Group. He also enjoyed working on cars, including his dump truck and tractor. He was also a past member of the Bayview Fire Company.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ellene A. (Hand) Townsend; his children, John W. Townsend, Jr. (Joanne), Laurene Feriozzi (Joe) and Ellene Weaver (Chris); his grandchildren, Taryn (Jason), Jenna, Brooke, Taylor (Richard), Joe Jr. (Kim), Laurene, Jennifer (Ryan), Leslie (Waleed), Alyssa (Joe) and Kyle; his great-grandchildren, Baya, Madison, Jax, Reef, Jason, Johnny, Jack, Martino, Ryan Jr., Joey, Milani, Joe III, Rylee, Milo, Noah, Ava and Iris; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be 10AM to 11:30AM on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at United Methodist Church at Absecon, 100 Pitney Rd., Absecon. A service will follow at 11:30AM. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. For online condolences, please visit www.parselsfh.com.
