Katherine M. Dutton, 91, a longtime resident of Absecon, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014. Born in Boston, MA, she lived in Absecon for over 60 years, moving to Dennisville a short time ago. Mrs. Dutton was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during World War II. She served as an aviation machinist and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal, before her honorable discharge in 1945. During her career, she was a supervisor of the mail department, working with Stockton College, beginning in its original location in Atlantic City at the Mayflower Hotel and continuing to its current location in Galloway Twp. Mrs. Dutton was also very active in Absecon. She was an auxiliary member of the Absecon VFW Post #9462, as well as a member of the VFW Ambulance Squad, she was one of the original female members of the Absecon American Legion, Post #28, she was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, as well as a Ladies Auxiliary member of the Absecon Fire Department and also played on the Absecon Softball League.
She is predeceased by her husband, Edward C. Dutton, Jr. She is survived by her children, Helen (Michael) Iaconelli, Dan (Betsy) Dutton, Michael (Carol) Dutton, Richard (Margaret) Dutton and Mary Kate (Joseph) DeLuca; she is also survived by her grandchildren, Richard Jr., Meghan, Katelin, Dan, Nick, Sarah, Ryan, Alissa, Joseph, Michael, Gregory and Anthony; and her great-grandchildren, Jacob and Joseph John as well as several ‘on the way’ .
A memorial gathering will be 7PM to 9PM, Friday, February 21, 2014 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. There will also be a gathering from 9:45AM to 10:45AM, Saturday, February 22 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A Funeral mass will follow at 11AM at the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
