Laurel A. Capone

Capone, Laurel Ann (Pagnam) – 85, Absecon passed away on December 22, 2015 after an extended illness. Laurel was one of five children born to Arthur and Gladys Pagnam on Long Island, NY. Laurel is predeceased by her loving husband, Carmen J Capone and her beloved brothers, Arthur Jr., James and John. Her surviving sister and best friend is Loraine Tobolski (Robert) of Vineland. She also enjoyed a loving relationship with her sister-in-law Beryl, of Haddonfield, and BFF niece Kathie Davis (Raymond) of Marmora.

Laurel graduated from Vineland High School, attended Temple University, and later, Stockton State College. She met her husband Carmen and they spent their next 62 years in Absecon, raising three sons of whom she was very proud; Victor (Lin), Kevin (Anne Marie) and Chris (Peggy). They in turn, gave her the pleasure of five “exceptional” grandchildren; Daniel, Mary Kay, Matt, Connie and Catherine (Cece).

Laurel worked in several professional capacities including secretary to the superintendent of Absecon schools, administrative assistant for Overseas Ministries of Ventnor and as office manager for the Atlantic County Bar Association. She was a charter member of the Absecon Junior Women’s Club and served on the Absecon Library Board for many years, encouraging others with her love of reading and books. An avid reader, she was known to consume a good novel in a single night. Laurel loved a fast game of tennis (doubles), enjoyed skiing in Vermont and was hard to beat when playing with her bridge club. She also was a dedicated fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers whom selflessly devoted themselves to caring for Laurel during her illness. Karen, Irina, Danuta and the hospice team were truly angels. And leading the effort as always, our in-family hero, Peggy.

Private services will be held by her family and close friends. Donations may be made to the Humane Society of Ocean City NJ http://hsocnj.org/. For online condolences, please visit www.parselsfh.com.
