Obituary For Louis 'Lou' DeFeo, Jr.
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Louis “Lou” DeFeo, Jr. from complications of Mesothelioma, on August 4, 2024 at the age of 84. Surrounded by his loving family in his final moments, he was a man of immense faith and always cherished time spent with his family. Lou was born to Louis (Lou) and Catherine (Kate) on April 1, 1940 in the Inlet Section of Atlantic City. He attended St. Nicholas School, Holy Spirit High School and graduated from Atlantic City High School, where he was a stand-out football player and met the love of his life, Bonnie Miller. Lou spent summers as a Lifeguard on the Atlantic City Beach Patrol and after graduating from High School, enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Naples, Italy and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After being honorably discharged, he became a member of the Atlantic City Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of Captain, serving 27 years, retiring in 1990 and held various Officer positions with the Atlantic City Professional Firefighters NJ FMBA Local 8. Lou was a resident of Brigantine for 25 years, and moved to Ft. Myers for 27 years, spending his free time riding the red scooter, hanging at the pool, and playing Bocci.
Lou is predeceased by his mother and father, Lou and Kate DeFeo; brother, Frank DeFeo; brother-in-law, Jim Dooley; and son-in-law, James Hulsizer. He leaves behind to cherish his memory wife, Bonnie (Miller); Sister, Lois Dooley; Sister-In-Law, MaryAnn DeFeo; Daughter, Barbara Hulsizer (Scott Chilton); Daughter and Son-In-Law, Donna and Dan LaRotonda; Son and Daughter-In- Law, Lou and Gina DeFeo; Grandchildren, Jimmy DiNatale, Kati and Anthony Mangione, Joey and Bobbi LaRotonda, Nick and Julia LaRotonda, Danielle and Clifford Melder and Danielle Pouleres; Great-Grandchildren, Jimmy, Jordan, Julia, January, and Jameson DiNatale, Enzo and Anthony Mangione, RJ and Emma LaRotonda, Donato LaRotonda, Jackie Van Ness and soon to be Baby Clifford Melder, due September 2024; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial gathering will be 8:45AM to 10:45AM on Monday, August 12, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A funeral mass will follow at 11AM. Mausoleum service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.
