Obituary For Marilyn Mildred Applegate
Applegate, Marilyn Mildred, 87, of Absecon Highlands, passed away January 11, 2023. Born March 1, 1935, in Easton, PA, to Joseph W. and Mildred M. Wittenmeyer (nee Huff), she grew up in Phillipsburg, NJ. Later she lived in Galloway Township (Oceanville), NJ. She was married to Capt. Andrew J. Applegate III of Atlantic City, who owned two 100-foot party fishing boats. Marilyn graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1953 and served as the class treasurer. While supporting Capt. Applegate and his business, Marilyn also worked for Chelsea Title Co., Allen’s Shoes in Shore Mall, and the Red Cross in Pleasantville. She liked to oil paint scenery and decorate cakes, which were often donated for the Absegami High School band bake sales. Marilyn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew J. and Christine L. Applegate IV of Georgetown, MA; her grandson, Andrew J. Applegate V and great-grandson, Andrew J. Applegate VI of Salisbury, MA, and her grandson Vincent T. Applegate of Broomfield, CO. Visitation will be 12PM to 1PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A funeral mass will be offered at 1PM. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Red Cross (https://www.redcross.org/donate/memorial-donations.html/).
