Hughes, Marion E. 84 - of Galloway passed away with her loving family at her side on January 12, 2013, after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Savannah, Ga. where she graduated high school, she then moved to New York where she met her husband Jacob Hughes. His career in the Coast Guard took them to California where they lived before settling in Sea Isle City from 1964-1989. Marion was a member of the Savannah Historical Society and a past Grand Matron and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She took great pride in her southern roots. Marion returned to school when she was 45 and graduated from the ACCC Culinary Arts Program. She was last employed as a baker at Trump Castle. Upon her retirement she moved to Galloway and lived with her daughter Leslie. More recently she was a resident at The Health Center at Galloway where she spent the last 2 years in the care of a loving staff. Marion was a hard to beat avid scrabble player. She enjoyed reading, painting, and was an amazing cook. Marion was predeceased by her husband Jake (1976), her son Richard (1998) and her grandson George B. Craig IV (2007). She is survived by her children Leslie (George) Craig of Galloway, Tony Hughes of Margate, Dawn (John) Schrieber of Egg Harbor City, and a grandson, Brian Craig of Galloway. Services will be held at 11:00 Friday, January 18, 2013 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave, Absecon, NJ. Burial will take place privately. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her memory be made to Health Center at Galloway “Activities for Residents”, 66 West Jimmie Leeds Road, Galloway, NJ 08205.
