Obituary For Mary R. Hayes
Hayes, Mary (Kane) 83, (Mrs Derb), most recently of Absecon passed away peacefully on April 6, 2023 surrounded by family. She was born November 27, 1939 in Philadelphia and moved to Atlantic City as a child. Mary was a graduate of Atlantic City High School. She spent the majority of her working life in the local hospitality industry in both casino and non-casino restaurants. Kents, Pageant Coffee Shop, Town Tavern, Patty’s Coffee House and Teddy’s West End, to name a few. She finished her career at Local 54 where many saw her smiling face collecting dues. But, she most cherished her job as mother, Mom Mom and GiGi to her family.Mary was one of the original coaches in the Chelsea Girls Softball League, helping to guide the Red Team to the 1st league championship. She loved traveling with friends, especially her trips to Ireland and Alaska.Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Jim Hayes; her parents, Thomas and Frances Kane; her brother, Neil Kane; as well as her dear husband, Joe Mc Monagle. She is survived by her children, Bob Derbyshire (Liz), Cris Keck (Jim) and Joe Derbyshire; as well as grandchildren, Tim Keck (Shannon), Dan Keck (Michelle) and Susan (Rob) Vizthum; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Jordan, Connor, Porter and Vera; also, sister, Rosie Kane-Mathews and sister in spirit, Mary Daviso-Dare.Special thanks to the staffs at Seacrest Rehabilitation Center and both AtlaniCare Campuses, especially the Hospice Care Team.In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation in Mary’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the local charity of your choiceVisitation will be held from 9:45AM to 10:45AM on Friday April 14, 2023 at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Ave., Absecon, followed by a Mass at 11AM. There will be no graveside service. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer.
