Higgins, Peter J - November 14, 1921 - October10, 2011.
Peter passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by family and friends. Pete was born in Boston, Mass. A first generation Irish-American, he was the fifth child born to Mary Eleanor (Lennox) and William Higgins. He is predeceased by his parents, loving wife Lillian (Rucker), sister Eleanor, brothers Reverend Clement, Charles, and Thomas.
Pete served in the US Navy during WWll. He later settled in Atlantic City, NJ where he met and married his dream girl Lill. They owned and operated Lennox Liquor Store in Atlantic City for 21 years. Both were then employed by Family Service Association of South Jersey. He was an active member of Holy Spirit Church in Atlantic City and Elizabeth Ann Seton in Absecon where he served as a deacon for many years.
Pete was a jack of all trades and in his retirement built, repaired and painted everything in sight. (His family actually hid things from him!) Pete travelled the world via the navy, National Geographic, and numerous travelogues and adventure dvd’s –thank you Netflix and Galloway library. He was busy with lists of things to do up to his last days. His blue eyes, smile, and one liners will forever be remembered by those he touched. To quote Pete, “I never had a bad day yet…A couple of cloudy ones..but I lie a lot.” When troubles arose he would exclaim, “It will all come out in the wash.”
He is survived by his four children: Kate (Roy) Stiver, Peter (Margaret), Betsy (Bob) Naumchik, John (Kathy); 11 grandchildren: Julie, Annie,Heather, Peter,Brent,TerahSue, Rebecca, Lauren, Ashley, Blair and Kelsey; 2 great-grandchildren: Tate and Brennan Olivia; and by his well-fed loyal dog Jazz.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration mass at Elizabeth Ann Seton church in Absecon, NJ on Saturday (10/15) at 10:00am. We give thanks to Pete’s caregivers, friends, doctors and hospice workers for sharing the passage of time with Pete so lovingly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053. for condolences, www.parselsfuneralhome.com.
