Obituary For Richard 'Dick' Aloysius Yard
Yard, Richard ‘Dick’ Aloysius, 87, of Absecon, born March 20, 1937, peacefully passed away at his home on May 23, 2024. Born and raised in Duck Town, Atlantic City. Richard later moved to Absecon with his beloved parents, Ceil and Aloysius “Al” Yard.
From a young age, Richard was passionate about two things: music and model trains. He was an active member of his school band at Atlantic City High School and pursued a career as a professional musician. Richard joined the Mummers and played in many local spots, including Copsey’s in Absecon, until the early hours of the morning, sharing his love for music with countless audiences.
Later in life, Richard opened Roundhouse Hobby Shop with a close friend Ed, in downtown Absecon, where he spent many hours working on trains and nurturing the hobby he adored. His passion for trains extended beyond his shop. He cherished his train collection at home and loved spending time with his train buddies, attending train shows, and working on the Shoreline Model Railroad Club layout built at his dear friend Jim's.
In addition to his love for trains, Richard was also a classic car enthusiast, dedicating many hours to repairing and restoring his cherished '56 Ford Thunderbird.
Along with his many hobbies, Richard always made time for his beautiful wife, Darlene. Together, they built a beautiful home and raised three wonderful children: Rochelle ‘Shelly’ Murcavage, Dee Ann Yard and Heather (Danny) Miller. He is predeceased by his son-in-law, Paul Murcavage. His family continued to grow with the addition of eight grandchildren: Anthony Yard, Ashley (Alex) Zucker, Daniel (Sara-Jo) Miller, Taylor Walker, Sara Miller, Shellbie Yard, Calie Miller, and Rylee Lafferty, and one great-grandchild, Oliver Zucker.
Richard will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy lives on through the wonderful memories and the joy he brought to his family and friends. In leu of flowers, donations may be made to Shoreline Model Railroad Club, 401 East Elm Avenue, Galloway NJ 08205.
