Robert C. Burroughs, 90, of Galloway, died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Atlanticare, Galloway Twp. Born in Atlantic City, he has lived in Galloway for the past 30 years and also maintained a residence in Margate. He worked as a mailman for 30 years for the Absecon Post Office before his retirement. He also worked as a lifeguard in Atlantic City in the channel. In his younger years, he was involved with amateur boxing. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a member of Absecon VFW, Post #9462 and the Absecon American Legion, Post #28. He also joined the Knights of Columbus, Council #6342 where he was a life member and a Third Degree Knight. He was also involved with the Irish Culture Society. He was a graduate of Holy Spirit High School in Atlantic City and was a member of their Alumni Association.
He is predeceased by his Mother, Marie Davis Burroughs, brothers, Fred and George Burroughs. Robert is survived by his wife, Adelaide Cosmi Burroughs; his step-son, Anthony Cosmi and his wife Elizabeth of Pennsylvania; his step-daughter, Antoinette Karpa of Florida; his nieces and nephews, Greg (Jan) Costigan, Marie, Kathy and George.
Visitation will be 9AM to 10:45AM, Thursday, December 20, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A funeral mass will be offered at 11AM in the church. Burial will follow at Laurel Memorial Park, Egg Harbor Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity supporting Hurricane Sandy relief or Absecon VFW Post #9462, PO Box 136, Absecon, NJ 08201.
