Walter J. Carhart

Carhart, Walter J. III, of Absecon, earned his wings and went home to be with our Lord on February 23, 2014 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Atlantic City. Walt was predeceased by his parents Walter (Smokey) and Arlene (Kaufman) Carhart, his brothers Sandy and James Robinson, his Uncle Jack Carhart, his niece Nancy (Robinson) Palmisano and his 'Little Buddy' Ricky Per.

Walt was a jack of all trades; always enjoyed lending a helping hand and mentoring those in need. He was a professional painter and retired from the Atlantic City MUA. Walt enjoyed golfing, swimming, skiing, his boat and fishing, shooting pool, listening to the Oldies, dancing at Copsey's, riding his Harley and joined the various toy runs and parades, also was an avid Eagles fan. He loved spending time with his family and friends on all occasions. Christmas evening was always spent with his family at Barry and MaryLou's house.

An ancestry search provided by his dearly departed neighbor Chuck Hathaway revealed that Walt was a descendent of Cornelius Carhart (1729-1810) who fought as a Captain in 1776 and a Major in 1778 in the Revolutionary Army at Elizabethtown, NJ and Monmouth, NJ. Walt was very, very proud of his family. He was blessed with great friends and neighbors.

Leaving to treasure thousands of memories will be his soul mate, best friend and wife of forty years Nancy (North), his daughter Maria (Scannapieco) and spouse Pedro Garcia Sr., grandchildren Amanda, Christina, Pedro Jr., Matthew, Gabrielle and Hailey. A long lost but found again brother Constance (Gil) Helvitson; sister-in-law Nancy Robinson; nephews, nieces and cousins; along with his dog Jack and cat Patches. He is and will always be deeply missed.

Walt loved animals and we request that memorial donations be made to the Atlantic County Animal Shelter located at 240 Old Turnpike Road, Pleasantville, NJ 08232. Walt would want everyone to practice random acts of kindness on his behalf.

At the family request services will be private. Family and friends may share their memories at www.parselsfh.com
