Coderre, Sr., Walter N. ‘Dempsey’, 86, of Galloway Twp., passed away at home on December 29, 2017, surrounded by his family. Born in Harrison, NJ, he’s lived in Galloway for many years. In 1951, he was drafted in to the US Army. He served overseas in Germany during the Korean War. From 1966-1979, Walt owned and operated Coderre’s Heating and Air Conditioning in Central Jersey. He moved to south Jersey in the early1980’s, where he built and sold homes. He used his own log home as the model for his business and place to run operations. From the late 1980’s and until his retirement, Walt worked in security at the Sands Casino and the Taj Mahal Casino.
Walt was a ‘hands on’ guy who loved to build. He also loved to play golf and had many get-a-ways with his son Stephen to Florida, and Ocean City, MD to have time on the courses. Walt was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6342, with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Absecon. He was a regular attendee of the 8AM mass at St. Elizabeth’s, where he served as a greeter and also volunteered with the Comfort Ministry at the church, assisting with funerals.
Walt is predeceased by his brothers and sister, Raymond, Earl and infant Louis Coderre and Joan Spagone. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (nee Jordan); his children, Deborah Debrosky (Glenn), Walter N. (Norman) Coderre, Jr. (Sharon), Gregory Coderre and Stephen Coderre; his brother, William Coderre (Beverly); his grandchildren, Walter (Chip) Coderre, III, Lauren Coderre, Nicole Klever (Jake), Gregory Coderre, Jr. (fiancé Dee), Jordan Coderre, Conor Coderre and Brianna Coderre; his 2 great-grandchildren, Jacelyn and Jacynda; and his beloved companion and dog, Rudy, who was always by his side.
Visitation will be 6PM to 8PM on Friday January 5, 2017 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A second visitation will be 9:45AM to 10:45AM on Saturday January 6, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A funeral mass will follow at 11AM. Burial will be private.
