William Jones

William A. Jones, 94, of Absecon and Fort Myers, FL, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Atlantic City, He’s lived in Absecon for many years. He retired as a manager for New Jersey Bell, in Atlantic City, working with them 34 years and retiring in 1980. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Coast Guard. Mr. Jones also served as the commanding officer for the United States Coast Guard Reserve in Atlantic City. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Absecon. Bill was a member of the Mature Adults and a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was a life member of the VFW, Post #10097 in Fort Myers and a former member of Absecon VFW Post #9462 and a member of the American Legion Post 28, in Absecon. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a former member of the Mainland Exchange Club. He also is a former councilman for Absecon.

He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Mary (Dempsey) Jones. He is survived by his children, Eileen (Jerry) Charest, Tall Timbers, MD, Teresa (Harvey) Adams, Evergreen, CO, William J. (Reka) Jones, Absecon and Michael D. (Pamela) Jones, of Fairfax, VT; brother, Frank (Betty Jane) Jones, Absecon; sister, Rita Harrison, Oxnard, CA; sister-in-law, Connie Jones, Absecon; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandson.

Visitation will be 6PM to 8PM, Friday, April 12, 2013 at Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. A funeral mass will be offered 10AM Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Ave., Absecon. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Atlanticare Hospice, 6550 Delilah Rd., Suite 210, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234.
