Obituary For Albert L. Zona

ZONA, ALBERT L., 96, of Absecon, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on August 2, 2024, with his family at his side. Al was married to his wife of 60 years, Gloria (McKenna) Zona, until her passing in 2011. He built his life, his family and his business in Absecon and was most known for Al Zona's Texaco on the corner of New Road and Route 30 in Absecon where his customers became his friends. After he retired, he could be found most days at Zona Real Estate in Absecon started by his late wife and continued by his daughter, Jeannine. He was always ready with a smile and friendly conversation to all he met.

He loved the community he helped create. Al was a very proud lifetime member of the Absecon Fire Dept and volunteered with the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs of Absecon. He was a member of the American Legion. Al's proudest accomplishment was his family and friends and the time spent with them. He loved being outdoors, mowing his lawn and tending his gardens. From the Greatest Generation, he served in the United States Army in occupied Japan in 1946 and 1947. He was born and raised in the days of the Depression to Millie (Cocozza) and Joseph Zona. He was predeceased by his wife Gloria; sisters, Marie Giordano and Leanore DiFelice; brother, Joseph Zona; and son-in-law, William Steiner. Al is survived by daughters, Kathleen (Steve) Silvern, Stephanie (Drew) Scola, Jeannine (Leon III) Wescoat and Gloria Steiner; Grandchildren, Christopher (Paige) Silvern, Courtney (Stephen) Cittadini, Lauren (Matt) Nelson, Leon (Karen) Wescoat IV, Abby (Sean) Curran, Rachael (Richard) DiCioccio, Daniel (Alicia) Wescoat, McKenna (Ian) Steiner and Madalyn Steiner; his brother, Henry (Gail) Zona; brother-in-law, Ralph Ross; 15 Great-Grand-Children; and many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Solomon Sesay, Self Salifu, Holly Bennett, and Angelic Hospice who helped his family care for him.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 8:45AM to 10:45AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 592 New Jersey Ave., Absecon, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00AM. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Zona family. I enjoyed our talks in the real estate office. He reminded me much of my grandfather. This world lost a good man. Heaven rejoice and welcome our brother home. 🙏

When we were kids, Pop would drive McKenna and I to school almost every morning. Nan would make us cream cheese with a side of bagel, and eventually Pop would emerge from the hallway with socks on his ears- Being his goofy self. When he was ready for work, he'd hoist us up and over his big fish tank and we'd sprinkle some stinky food in there. Sometimes, Nan would walk us out of the house and holler at the deer for nibbling on her garden. Like Nan, I will miss Pop terribly every day.

We Offer the Book of Memories™

Parsels Funeral Home offers what we consider to be the finest example of online memorials, the Book of Memories™. Created by an award-winning team of web developers and designers while being led by a funeral professional with over 25 years of experience, this online memorial is intended to provide your family with a permanent place to pay tribute to your loved one.

Far more than a traditional obituary—which is usually published only once and has no interactivity at all—the Book of Memories™ Memorial Website is a fully interactive archive of treasured photographs and stories remembered from their time spent with friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers.

You’ll be able to invite others to visit the online memorial, where they can upload images, share stories, write heart-felt messages of condolence, send a floral tribute to the funeral, or make a charitable donation in memory of your loved one. And the built-in social media integration means they can then “spread the word” about their addition to your loved one’s Book of Memories™ using Facebook and Twitter.

We offer the families we serve a Book of Memories™ memorial website with the intention that it gives you a measure of solace and comfort during the coming months. To arrange for a Book of Memories® memorial website for your loved one, contact us today.
